Linn Ekos Serial Numbers

The quality control at Linn should obviously not have let these arms leave the factory in less than 100% state. Or can the bearings be damaged in freight (as were the case for some of the Ittoks)? Comments from Linn would be appreciated. KR Hallgrim Halgrim, FYI. I pointed this out to David Williamson @ Linn about this time last year after I had encountered an anti-skate issue with an arm sn11001.
This resulted in a full investigation and David confirmed some changes to mitigate the issue were being considered. In the mean time I was in receipt of an arm with the changes applied sn11020 for me to try. I tested the arm and was satisfied that this arm was accurately calibrated. However, it did now leave the Se with a small amount of anti-skate at 0.00g this making balancing a little more difficult. The decision was made to incorporate this small change into production at the serial number shown above.
It is to Linn's credit and David's in particular that the change was incorporated into production so quickly. Basically, Hallgrim if you set up the bias by ear as we did in Oslo last year, rather than just dial up the anti-skate to be the same as the down-force, there is no problem. Peter, it was not the anti-skate issue I pointed at but the reported problems with the bearings. I find it quite disturbing if Linn does not discover faults in the bearings of the SE-arm before shipping. Well as Colin has pointed out Quote:Bearing problems had been noted on a very small number of very early examples. Ok, well as you can see. Colin and I are a pair of very fussy blighters!
Anything we are not 100% on, will be returned to the factory. This care and concern will be taken by other Linn retailers too of course.
Thankfully the problems have been very rare indeed and Linn fully investigate any issue whether build or transit related however small. In summary, there is very little chance of a problem if the dealer set-up and installs, retailers should be merely an extension of the QC process. As you have read, this is the case and it's refreshing that negative comments are not moderated here and there is a free and frank interchange of useful information. FWIW I couldn't agree more and it's very much to Linn's credit that that they seem to more-or-less leave the forum to its own devices. Anyway - has anyone seen what the subject of this thread realised on eBay tonight. I'm staggered Seems a daft amount of money to risk when for less than £300 more there is an ex-dem one available on the same auction site from a Linn retailer. On the other hand I'm certainly not complaining that no-one else has snapped that one up yet. Words fail me! Flea bay's T&Cs clearly state that items that have had their serial numbers removed are not eligible for sale and as such will be removed from auction. Not sure how this one got through.

Is bearing friction a problem with some EKOS SE arms? Hi I need to out this into context.I am VERY fussy about fit and finish on anything I sell to customers.Because of this I am possibly noted,(or notorised) at such at Linn.
I have supplied around 25 -30 SE arms since launch and a small number have been returned as not meeting my standards. Bearing problems had been noted on a very small number of very early examples, either slightly tight or loose, some were returned for adjustment. One suffered from an earthing problem. The rest were cosmetic.
The finish is a vapour process using granules.A very mild type of shot blasting. This looks great but when the arm is assembled on a bench the physical act of building it can mean that the fine satin finish is compromised and the result is either fine scratching or 'shiny spots' where the satin is scoured out by accident due to pressure on the bench. This was noted and changes were made in production assembly. These rejections are probably statistically unusual but that's me.No problems since that time. There is one in progress being fitted on one of the jigs in the showroom at present and the arm passes all of my tests with flying colours. Yes, Colin is very fussy; of great benefit when a possible problem emerges. I recently lost a channel, possibly due to the Ekos SE itself or the T-Kable.
For the avoidance of doubt he fitted another brand new arm, no problem.
