Windows Vista 256Mb Ram Patch

Yes, it works. No, it's not usable. Constant swapping, 20 minutes of boot time, minutes to start any program.

But, it's done. Screenshot with Task manager and CPU-Z:. 2012 update: What the hell dudes? How come this video has over 31k views? And the newest ones are from today Lol. I dunno if people still want some answers, but anyway: 1.

This thing is (was) real. I managed to install it with 128 megs on RAM installed via minimal Windows XP installation using Daemon Tools to read the ISO (legit RC1, build 7600 IIRC?) off of iPod. Using edited DLL file (as pointed out) one can bypass the limitations regarding RAM amount.

Vista

Getting it to boot with such little RAM was kinda lucky strike, as I just tried it for the fun of it - and it worked! The unit runs quite a lot better with more RAM (duh, less swapping to HDD), but as the point was to go as low as possible, so. The unit has 2 megs of VRAM, so it cannot run Aero (not that it would boot up this millenia if it did). Aero makes the UI see-through - this 'basic theme' clearly ain't one. Learn the difference. To the douchebags that say this is stupid video because the system cannot run with the performance that's usable: WAY TO GO SHERLOCKS! If I wanted to get the most out of the unit, I'd run Win2k as I used to.

The point was to take part in a competition where they were looking for lowest specs to be able to run W7 back in Assembly 2009 in Helsinki, Finland. Sadly I got disqualified due to not being able to fulfill the requirement of 'loading up Assembly website in browser'. This was due to the facts that a) I couldn't get my PCMCIA-ethernet card to work with W7, and b) their WiFi connections were so loaded that this unit timed out all the time when trying to connect.

Back home it worked 'just fine' over WiFi. No, it doesn't run Skyrim or Crysis. Pretty much not anything else either. No, this cannot be done on much older unit, due to the requirement of SSE from processor.

I'm not that familiar with the technical things (no, really, I'm not!), but my 486 couldn't be used to install XP on it for the very same reason:) I think the whole SSE-thingy came with Pentiums, so those are the lowest one can go for various reasons. Using USB for ReadyBoost. Well, that thing does have one USB-port, but that's like the first implementation of USB, so I guess the performance gain would be quite minimal due to the lack of bandwidth. Special message to @ComputerTechGuy I seriously hope that you don't make a living out of computers. As not only are you overly dumb to think that this using would be my main unit, but also you're illiterate as well. Not good for business dude! Someone mentioned that W7 could be booted with only 16 megs.

IIRC I did with 32 megs on this very same unit (this has 32 megs soldered in, and one free slot) and it did boot up. I also ran W7 on my desktop in virtual box, and I got it still boot with 20 megs allocated. I'm 'out of the scene' so might be true with the 16 megs, just telling my own experience. Thank's for all the views! Kinda funny to stumble upon my old video and to see that it has gained such 'popularity'. I take donations via PayPal (used strictly for buying beer), and I do sign autographs - LOL.
